I am not going to tell you that I know everything about being prepared for every emergency…anyone who does is lying. What I will tell you is that if you start today, and make some easy changes to your mindset and lifestyle, you will be better equipped to deal with any issue that arises.
I live in a state that faces blizzards, wildfires, high winds, tornadoes, earthquakes and volcanoes. We are also one of the poorest per capita states in the union. We understand learning to assess risks and plan accordingly. It is important to be honest about your circumstances. This allows you to make a workable plan for the most likely disasters in your area. Above is a great example of a person who looked ahead, anticipated a problem and solved it before he needed to. That is the definition of a modern prepper.
Prepping is a new term for a very old American ideal…self-reliance. Americans were a hardy group who crossed deserts and mountain ranges. We made our clothes, grew our own food, made our own soaps and fixed our own tools…after we spent all day working at real jobs. So what happened?
In the late 20th century, someone decided that this life was too hard. Their kids were going to have it easier than they did. And so began the slow slide into a world of mindless gadgets that make life so simple, that we have become distracted by quick and easy. We no longer want to DO something. This attitude has created a void of education. The young didn’t learn survival skills in real life, they were too busy saving lives in a video game. I am not putting anyone down. Everyone does the best they can with the tools they got…some people just have more tools.
That’s what this site is about…giving you tools that you maybe didn’t get as a kid, or maybe haven’t thought about in years. So let’s dive right in and start preparing to live life well under any circumstance.
