Have you Taken Wilderness Medicine Courses?

flood1

Are you prepared to take care of your family’s medical needs in an emergency?  Have you ever seen a wilderness medicine class?  Have you ever taken a wilderness medicine course?

It was recently brought to my attention that all the food, water and defense can not protect my family from germs, bacteria, dog bites and broken bones… and I have no medical training.

I can fix most common ouchies, but I would be at a loss with a stab wound or a bad burn.  I am prepared to the extent that I could stabilize someone to get them to a hospital, but what if there was no hospital?  During many natural disasters hospitals are overwhelmed and understaffed.  They can only treat the most critical of patients and they are often targeted by addicts looking to loot drugs.  And without proper sanitation and water they are full of micro-nasties.

What would I do?  Honestly, I would avoid hospitals if at all possible, but how would I treat my family?

wheelchair3I have scoured the interwebs, and found what are what I feel are the best options for the common man.  I searched for stellar programs that are geared to the layman.  Lots of practical advice in plain English.

The first is a program called SurvivalMD .  It is the only complete medical field survival guide for the laymen…showing you how to treat yourself and loved ones during crisis situations when doctors, pharmacies and hospitals are unavailable.

With simple  straight forward instructions, you don’t need any kind of medical training…or a medical professional looking over your shoulder.  The man who came up with the idea for this book is a Katrina survivor.  He lived through this horrible hurricane, but lost his father to an untreated infection.  How is that even possible in this country in this day and age.  As he tells his story you will see the importance of this information. He found a highly trained doctor who has been working in third world countries and field hospitals, to write this book. We all need to know this stuff.  Knowledge is the most important tool you have…and it’s the lightest.

In this concise program, you will learn

  • How to diagnose and assess an emergency medical situation
  • What supplies and medicines are indispensable… that  you should be stocking up on now
  • Which medicines slow healing processes and  can actually put you in more danger
  • How to build a useful first aid kit for true emergency situations
  • What the 5 mega killers are after any disaster strikes…and how to avoid them
  • How to manage garbage and human waste to keep your area safe and clean

This knowledge can save your life  …or your family.

  1. This is an excellent article. Not only does it teach you how to survive on your own, but it gives you expert advise on how to treat yourself in emergency situations.

    • I bought this book, and am very impressed with the wealth of information available here. It is easy to understand and applicable to many situations. If you were camping or driving cross country and someone was injured, you could treat them with confidence. Even if medical personnel were too far away. I also like that it is not written in doctor speak. I bought a first aid manual a while back. I am pretty sure you have to have 4 years of college to read it even with the pictures. However this book is written in everyday phrases that you could figure out after work when only 10 brain cells are still functional. I am loving it. I am also going to go through it with my teens. If they are out with their buddies, and someone got hurt, this could save a life or a limb. It’s a must have as far as I’m concerned.

    • I am glad you found some food for thought. I am proud to be a old school independent be prepared person. I think everyone should be as ready as possible for whatever life throws at them.

  2. Great post. Sure Preppers need to know their first aid, but we need to know more for times of crisis when medical facilities are no longer an option. I agree with you regarding SurvivalMD…it’s a well written, easy to understand guide.

    • I am always glad to here that someone else has value in a product. This book is awesome. I like that anyone can understand it. Its rubber meets the road medicine, not theories and DR speak.

  3. I wouldn’t call my husband and I preppers, but we definitely believe in being prepared. You’ll be pleased to hear that I did purchase SurvivalMD for my family. I actually became a lay midwife because I knew that in crisis situations hospitals will not be taking birthing women and they will be on their own. I felt that I needed to be knowlegeable enough to provide them with care when they can’t get it anywhere else. This book will be another valuable tool in my community service.
    Thanks

    • I am so glad you bought it. I read the digital copy thru once before my ‘real’ copy arrived. I learned so much, but I am going to have to go through it a couple of times. I am compiling a shopping list of items that I don’t have. I am so glad I found this resource!
